Rappahannock County, Virginia

Nestled in the shadows of Shenandoah National Park, this 160 acre Virginia estate includes rolling mountains, mature forest, and a creek running through the property. Working in collaboration with James Urban, FASLA, South Fork Studio helped to complete a master plan report that created a long-term vision for the property. The report included many recommendations; from an expanded woodland trail system and a new creek crossing, to a new swimming pool, and realignment of the existing driveway.

The landscape architects relied heavily on local field stone as a building material, and used it throughout the project to construct pergola support columns, landscape steps and retaining walls. A wall in the new pool pavilion has been designed to look like the remnant of an old barn foundation.
